I have an elderly quarter horse that had a bowed tendon and seemed to be recovering slowly but well from the injury. Now his tendon in contracting causing him to not put his heel down and to use his toe. By my vet's advice I took some height off of heel and have been rubbing the tendon with DMSO and Azium. It doesn't seem to be helping. Has anyone had success with other methods of treating a retracted tendon?

Have you tried stretching him?
Injured (but healed) tendons need lots of insistent work over time to be stretched back out.
I am stretching him. My farrier also put a tip of a shoe on the toe that will force the heel down a bit for the next couple of months!
