How to get known

Hello,
.
just a small question: Do you have any ideas for me on how to get known by other people?
I do already have an own website, but is there any other possibilities you can see?
My problem is that nobodyy knows me here in and around Hamburg, Germany, so that I am not able to work with any horses, although I have already done my Introductory Course and am now hoping that my written exam is good enough to get the certificate soon.
.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Best wishes,
Jasmin

It is very hard Jasmin, I have the same problem as a self employed horse trainer refusing to work in the "traditional way" and unable to afford to become an MR Instructor :-) All I can say is keep chasing, take every opportunity that comes and look at it, give talks, take a deep breath and go for it! Good luck.

Word of mouth always seems to work best for me. Get out and get involved with as many horse events and activities as you can to be able to meet people in the horse world. When people get to know you and what you do, word will spread. I live in a small area where I grew up so most people know me but they are often surprised when they find out that I train horses. Sometimes I volunteer to train for one of my neighbors just to have more opportunities to work with more horses. This has spread the word to others and before you know it, you have more work than you can handle. I actually am not involved with horse events in fact I never take my horses anywhere but I still somehow have received a reputation for training that surprises me sometimes. So get out and meet as many people as you can and success will follow.

Word of mouth has been best for me as well along with a website ( Mine is www.windingroadhorsetraining.com ). Just be honest, do a good job and tell people the truth. The truth will travel fast. Integrity goes a long way in the horse business. What is your website?

Ditto, to what everyone has suggested.
Do you have a local produce store or saddlery where you could pop up an advertisement?
Volunteering at a local pony club, horse rescue place or riding for the disabled gets you around horsey people and helps to get your name out there.
Are you a member of a riding club?
Obviously competing or showing your horse or horses you have trained helps to get you known.
Even buying a horse, training it up, showing or competing it and selling it on every now and then allows people to see what you do and the results you can achieve.
Have you considered giving riding lessons?

I'm not sure how relevant my suggestions are to your circumstances, they are just some of the ideas I have had for my own business, (when I am qualified that is!!)
Good luck!

Hi all,
.
and thank you very much for all your comments!
My problem is, that I grew up in the city, with no horses around me. I have never been part of a riding club or anything like that. And I have never owned a horse. So, nobody knows me. Around me, there are also not many stables. And when they do horsemanship somewhere, it is always in the Parelli style. And than Monty's way to work with horses is no more "liked" by these people. So it is very difficult, also with the word of mouth.
.
Stephen, I don't know where you are from, but I would suggest not from Germany or another country where people are talking in German? My website is in German, not very professional for the start. (www.equusworld.de) There will follow videos and pictures, hopefully soon. But therefore I need horses to work with. So, I am in quite a difficult situation.
.
Rahni, no, there are no saddlerys around me,no pony clubs, no horse rescue places or riding for disabled people. And I have also never competed a horse. Also there is not the money to buy and care for a horse at the moment. I am in traineeship at the moment, only 20 years of age. In Germany you are not allowed to work as a riding teacher if you are not licenced by the FN (an organisation to secure the quality of traditional trainers in Germany).
.
So, if you have any more ideas, please tell me!!!
.

Hi Jasmin

There is no one answer I'm sorry to say, you have to do as many of the things that have been suggested as you can and accept that the path you have chosen is one of non violence and of principles. On that basis your journey will be slower because you are up against lots of other methods and old ideas and it is hard to change people. However, you must live by your ethics and not sacrifice them for speed. You will get there I'm sure :-)

Of course, there is always bribery! Put a poster up saying the first 10 people that respond will get their first lesson free - it worked for me when I started dog training, I got 35 clients in 4 weeks, I was exhausted hahaha but it worked.

Incidentally, I would point out that while Riding for Disabled people is of course great they do not necessarily practice good horsemanship or welcome Monty's ideas as I found out!

Best wishes

Hi vicci,
.
wow, what great idea with this little "bribery" to put up a poster for a first free lesson for the first 10 people responding! Wow!
I have also been thinking of offering small courses, for example about body language or double long lining ... What do you think about that?
.
Best wishes
