Hello!
Join-up can be performed with any horse breed. During Join-up, we communicate with the horse in his own language, taught to him by his mother. The foal should be weaned before you attempt to join-up with him.
Speaking of horses that work in riding schools, they are usually "shut down" - they don't like people and are the happiest when they are left alone (I've been working with riding school horses for years). Also, majority of them, especially older ones, will stop trying to comunicate with people, because they were prooven lots of times that people don't understand them :/. I would reccomend that before you try to do join-up, establish basic trust with that particular horse, show him that you speak his language while leading, grooming, etc. And always leave the horse his freedom of choice. Let him make the mistake and then correct him. I would recomend using Dually halter and do some dually work (lessons are here on online Uni). It will teach the horse good ground manners and he will be happier and calmer horse as he will learn from his own mistakes (intrinsic learning).
I hope I helped you. If you have any more questions please ask!
Cheers,
Mirna

Hi. I agree. Riding school horses & ponies are usually so fed up with people it will take extra effort on your part. However, it has been my experience that if you are successful but the other people dealing with the horse don't modify their attitudes, you may make the situation worse as the horse, having experienced a better relationship, resents it when they are treated in the old way. Perhaps your best option is to concentrate on an animal who is tended by either like-minded people or those who are open to Monty's concepts. Good luck. Cheers, Jo.
