Since the weather has been excellent I started long lining my horse. The first week was just listening and getting use to the equipment. Rocket was very patient while he found that window to go through. During the 2nd week our problem was turning. I returned to the EOU video “Long Lining 101: Turning” studying how Monty held the lines, and how he crossed the centerline at 3 o'clock on the east end of the round pen with the horse. We tried this and it worked.
One day the owner of the boarding facility came out to show me an old driving rig assembly. He told me he was glad to see someone using driving reins on a horse. And then my wife came out to watch Rockets’ impressive manners (standing still, sweet spot, etc.)
Everyday I work my horse I leave with a feeling of pride and confidence.
