proper saddle fitting

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed

I have just finished watching the latest Uni lesson on saddle fitting.
This was the best one yet, for this series.
Some have been very concerned about buying or using saddles.
When watching this we see the importance of a proper fit and good equipement for our horses.
Robert does a much better job in this section, explaining things, he allows Monty to voice his opinion, which I like.
I also like that Monty expresses the importance of having a saddle custom made for our horse.
It can be the most important piece of equipment we will ever purchace for our horse.
Have you enjoyed this as much as I have?
I can't wait for the next one, when they will be using a horse!!!

Much better presentation. I know that there is a science to all of this, but the number of products that are the miracle solution to getting the saddle to fit is so confusing. Not sure that I am any closer to understanding the proper way to fit a saddle, but at least I know there are tools available to help. Also the design of saddles for different breeds of horses is also important I ride a Peruvian work saddle and a Peruvian show saddle. I had to exchange the show saddle once because it fit the horse but not me. Now we are both happy. My western saddle I am now going to take a second look at since it is so important that the movement of the shoulders on a Peruvian Paso or for that matter not be hindered. You will cause great damage to the horse.
Cant't wait to see a horse fitted with the tools that we have been shown

Hi Ronda and dennis,

I like those lessons.
I learn a lot from it and for me it is coming just in time to understand more about fitting and the reaction of a horse.
.
I can understand that a horse will be more happier when a saddle is fitting perfect. I see it as when you try shoes, if they fit perfectly you will walk more relaxed on it and you will be more happier then having shoes that gives you presure points.
.
I am looking forward to the next lesson as well.
Cheers, May.

Learned a new word today while listening to the latest lesson on saddle fitting: skive-- it means to pare or thin down a piece of leather. Monty and Robert both used that in reference to custom made saddles, where the saddlemaker is going for a custom fit on the tree.

Can't wait for next week's lesson!

Best,
Julie

I'm gladd we all enjoyed these and I think as they go on we will learn even more.
Yea, Skive is to pare down. When I was young we used that term, to skivey down or to pare off a few pounds.
I like new words or old ones, I like words!!!
Comes in handy when we are communicating with one another, right.
Have a great day everyone.
