My Join-Up® Experience

Dazed horse after Join Up

Hello!

Hi All

Wondering if anyone could shed some light on 2 Join Ups I did recently. I achieved Follow Up, but then as they returned to the middle (or the safe area), however they just stood still with their head held high.

They are both Riding School horses, so to a degree I presume they have been institutionalised. Wondering if they were confused, or just standing in defiance to what had just happened?!

Ideas welcome :-)

Hi Zeb
.
Probably a silly question, but could they have been looking at something in the distance that was distracting them?
.
Its funny that both horses did it... It will be interesting to see what other people come up with :-)
.
Kind regards,
.

Hi Zeb,
My experience with typical ridingschool-horses is that they have lost the contact with their own language, I mean that they wait for the human to tell them what to do next. From what you write above I guess both were confused by what you "allowed" them to do in their language Equus. Probably no human has ever addressed them in this manner.
I would be curious to know if they "dare" to act out more, when you do your next few Join-ups with both of them. As you may know, up to 5 or 6 Join-ups can be beneficial to a horse, give them time between sessions, so they can digest what happened.
Please keep us posted,
Miriam
