Disengaging the front/hing quarters

Please upload your photo

I would like to see more information on disengaging the front/hind quarters from the ground. His video described the into pressure just fine but in need to see how to work it with a brand new trainee. I just acquired a 2 year old totally unbroke horse and I want to start from square one with him. We did join up last night but now what? He is too small for me to ride and I would like to have him totally ready when he is big enough for me to get on. What/how do I teach him all ground work?

Congratulations on your Join Up. Keep doing what you are doing and as you have the horse follow you after join up stop every so often tie him a rub then walk on. After a few minutes I would attach the lead rope and stand at his side and rub his back and side. I would then place my hand on his flank and press gently until he takes a step or two away from me. You can then start to move farther way from your horse and toss the end of the lead rope towards his flank asking him to move his hind quarters away. As he starts to move away move towards his flank to keep him moving. Reverse sides and do the same thing. It will not take too long for your horse to understand what you are akin him to do.

Disengaging the hind quarters is a great control method to keep your horse engaged in what you are doing as well as keep him from running off. If his rear is going in circles he cannot go forward and this allows him to calm down.
