First ride alone at home.

Hello Hello.
-
Finally the rain stopped and it is a glorious sunny day here on the east coast of Jutland, Denmark.
So of course, I had to ride my steed today.
I had no problems with the bridle and bit, though I did put it in and take it out again and reward Shilo,
There were no problems what so ever , however, Shilo knew that I had a pocket with treats in, because of the bit, so his focus was just on how he could get hold of the next treat.
Mounting was no problem but walking straight forward......NO.....He turned around and around in circles with his head pointing to me ( give me food !!!)
I should of known, and it was an oversight on my part.
Forward motion in a straight line was not possible because he could just not focus on anything other than the treats.
So we practiced backing up and turning left and right, which went well.
No treats in the pocket tomorrow, so let's see if I can get a full walk around the arena!!
I'm only focusing on the positive points of our session today, it was my fault , I'm just very happy that he didn't bolt.

Well done! Now, keep that focus, Dionne!
We should always start with the positive points, whatever we do, and make them our main focal point.
.
I often tell "my" dressage riders that when they have finished a test,(at a competition), grab hold of what went well and concentrate only on those parts.
And if it was no more than the final halt and salute, then celebrate that and ignore the rest until you are centered enough to handle thinking levelly about the things that need to be improved. :)

Thanks Kikki.

I have ridden today and there is a video on you tube, just search my name- dionne møller.
I got my forward motion today - no treats what so ever with me this time.!!
You can see that he stops up now and again, I use my leg to ask for a walk again and if he doesn't react then as you will see in the video i use the ends of the reins and tap his neck with them, which wakes him up a little.
I only had to do this once and then he listened to my leg.
I am very positive about my ride today, he did what I asked of him, so what more can I wish for.
I'm trying to give very light signals in the reins for left ,right cues but as you will see sometimes he needs big arm movements !! But he is only 4 years old and only just ' broken' to ride- I hate that term.
