My Join-Up® Experience

Go ahead, laugh

Hello!

I'm going to quickly share that a horse trainer that works at the ranch where I board my horse doesn't understand Equus. To make a long story short, I was trying to get my horse from her paddock and the other horses were interferring. My horse has been Joined-Up and in this new enclosure was "forgetting" that she just waits for me. Soooo, I decided to try and Join-Up the other horses by sending them away from me. I got them all going in a rather large circle around me, establishing a rather small flight distance for a 2-acre paddock. I kept letting my girl run away from me in this circle. It was rough and not pretty at all, but after a time, I began to do the shoulder thing and cross them...you know. And in a matter ofabout 15 minutes I had 3 of the horses following me. I patted their head and gave them a treat. My horse remembered what I was doing and just waited for me. Later on, a few other peopele said that I'd gotten closer to two of the other horses that no one else could (and were causing me problems) than they ever had. Hmmmm, who's laughing now?

Fabulous that you managed to join up wit several horses present! Another testimony to Monty's principle!
And also sadly that it's the people who know least who 'laugh' most...

Brilliant, you did exactly what I do to get a new herd of horses working together, start the join up process and the herd become one and work together, you becoming the leader and them respecting your leadership resulting in join up. Well Done! Sounds like you had fun!
As you say might not be pretty at first, but I now use that method to exercise my little ones of 6 together as I'm too big to ride them. They work in circles around me and have bundles of play along the way :D

Hello!

Thanks for the support! Join-Up is pretty great. And my mare went into a new herd just today after 1.5 wks to rehab a wound and she, being an alpha, had this all-mare herd following her. She's quite fluent in Equus ;-) And said trainer took note. This stuff is brilliant. I'm a lifer!
