It's a Manege not a Menage

In the spirit of education for us all (me included, I used to call it a Menage because everyone else did!) can I point out that a MENAGE is a domestic arrangement (hence the phrase menage a trois is a very tongue in cheek/euphemism for having a wife and mistress or other arrangements at home)whereas a MANEGE is where we train horses!

Knowing this all can make you seem very knowledgeable when you drop it into conversation...not that that would motivate any of us at all!Let's face it, as Monty-ites we often have to put up with snobby know-it-all's who want to put down everything we stand for so it's just nice to give something back now and again haha

Interesting Vicci. I have always thought of it as ménage which is the common spelling in Australia. My eldest sister is very much a horse snob and has run a riding school all her life but she has failed to point out this difference to me so maybe it is not used in Australia. Great information so thanks for pointing it out but as I am a bit of a rebel and have no desire to be associated with the snobby know-if-alls of the horse world I will continue to use ménage.

I said the last bit very tongue in cheek Maggie :-) It would mean the same in Australia too as they are both French words - apparently it comes from Salle de Manege but it is of course each to their own choice, just thought I'd share it :-)

Simpler to just call it a sand school or school. You do after all go there to educate both equines & humans!!!
