Join up - One Horse - two people

I would like both my daughter and myself to do join up with my 9 year old thoroughbred gelding. Will this cause a conflict of Loyalty in him?

I am still memorising and rehearsing this process, so I won't be ready for a few weeks yet. I want to do it absolutely right... when I decide to do it. Currently I am practicing throwing the lead rein out as Monty has shown. ... and writing it all down to better commit it to memory.

I am just worried that the join up process will only work for who ever does it first or best, rather than both myself and my daughter being so fortunate as to gain Elliot's trust.

Hi Margaret-Anne,
Horses are herd animals, they bond with herdmembers, so don't worry about who's first and who's best, deepen your relationship with Elliot and give your daughter a chance to do so too. Each of us has something special, horses remember what you mean in their life. I even think it's better to have more people Join-up with a private owned horse, so he'll not be a one-person-horse and difficult with others.
You seem to be preparing yourself thoroughly for the Join-up, why don't you make a home- video of it and be able to watch what you do later. Maybe your daughter would agree to have her session videotaped too, so the two of you can learn from it together. Watch it several times and compare it to Monty's videos. Remember you can do more than one Join-up with a horse, but don't do too many. Let it be fun for you and your horse!
Will you let us know how you progress?
Miriam

Just remember it is a conversation that you are having with your horse, so if you are both speaking to him in his langue he should be able to comunicate with you both.

This is a great question that was in the back of my mind as well. Miriam, I love your example of the herd and you brought up some very good points that I would like to remmber to tell someone. Would it be ok if I somewhat copied your words?

Hi Joy,
Thank you for your feedback, sure you can copy my words, I'm also still learning and your reaction helps me too! It is very rewarding to find that the words I chose do reach others and that they can make progress with what I wrote. Monty's method is such a wonderful system, at any level people can work with their horses and see results. When you come to a higher level of understanding, you'll find that all you learned until then is still in your toolbox and still valid, it all fits together and the picture becomes more complete every time.
Even Monty learns new things regularly!

Hi Margaret Anne and Elliot - Have you watched Monty's video series "Join up with Children". I only watched these the other day and thought of you and your daughter while watching them. By now you have probably done the join up with both you and your daughter so I hope it has worked for both of you. If not it maybe worthwhile checking this series before doing join-up with your daughter as you may stay in the round pen with your daughter as Monty does.
