My Join-Up® Experience

Join up with my mare for the first time

Hello!

Besides that i lost hold off the lead rope and it ended up on the opposite site of the paddock...we managed to do a successfully join and even follow up. Still, it is incredible that a tiny gesture can decide if it works or not. I forgot to lock my arm in the right position with my fingers closed when i started the join up and my horse didn't move at all...besides from me arcing around in front of her; the moment i locked my arm in position she started moving towards me immediatly. You must know that my horse has a history of abuse and we had to overcome some problems after i bought her so when she decided to follow me without hesitation...well, it was amzing:)

Hi Michaela,
What you describe prooves once more the fact, that it's a language and that we can learn it, if we take the trouble to learn it right! I don't know if you have Monty's textbook "From my hands to yours", in which you'll find all fine-tuned gestures we need to learn in order to communicate with our equine friends. You seem to have come quite a distance with your rescued mare, lucky mare to have found you and lucky you to have found such a wonderful teacher. She'll express herself in a very clear way, since she has a history of abuse, she needs to be sure never to be in a vulnerable situation again.
Keep the good work going and keep us posted on your progress,
Miriam
