Hi. Need more info so lots of questions. You do not have rosettes under your name - do you use Monty methods with this mare? How old is she? How long have you had her? How long have you had this problem? Is it getting worse? Are you the only one to handle her? Does she have any tender areas? Do you fold up her rug or do you throw the whole thing & then pull it across her? Is she worse when in season? My initial thoughts are that your mare may be sensitive & you should work to slow down your movements & calm yourself more in her presence by breathing deeply & expelling as much air as you can, as often as necessary. Use a good saddle pad. Put the saddle on gently. Pull the girth up slowly, in stages. When rugging her, fold the rug front to back. This makes it easy to flop it over her withers & then unfold over her rump, all straight with no pulling & dragging. Answer my questions & we'll work this out. Cheers, Jo

In this short text the most important part for me is that she is nipping at you. I think that is the first step of lack of respect. Using Monty's principles from the beginning should help to solve your problems, one after the other. You should start to stop the nipping.

Hi I didn't mean to put on the 2 other posts my kids were on my phone:) I have only been on this site for 2 weeks and I've learnt heaps but have only done about 60 lessons.my mare Molly is 17 years old.she is a ex trotter.i have had her a year.friends 14 year old daughter had her(they knew nothing about ownig horses)would visit her about twice a week and ride once in a blue moon.the girl found it hard to manage her if there were other horses so they put her on a big block by herself the girl would loose it with her when she wouldn't do what she wanted.she got a flu and was given 1 coarse of anti biotics and no follow up and nothing was done about the snot and cough(this was3 years ago )when I took her over I didn't know all this.when I took her on I notice all this and started having what investigations could be done in the remote town I live in.she was scoped and the mucus is goes all the way into her lungs.the vet diagnosed COPD or asthma they've also called it heaves there has been many times on steroids.she had ventipulman daily for a long time but then that wasn't even working and she was having lots of bad days.about a month ago my vet put her on a asthma preventer inhaler and she alot more stable.she seasons all the time but now i have her with other horses that has settled .as soon as I'd get to my horsemanship club she'd start winking and sqirting it was a bit embarrassing.molly has been like this since i got her.she is a very marey mare a bit of a meany but being a mother of boys i enjoy the femaleness and she doesn't frighten me usually it all threats.i am very gentle with her but its like she just does not want me to put stuff on her I do let some people have a ride but im there and do the tacking .i go to hertwice a day and if im not riding I groom her and give her love.if I tie her up so she can'tturn and nip at me she'll bite the fence.she can also be a bit of a bully with other horses in the paddock even though she happier with company.she's the boss.my big percheron is terrified of her.id like to know how i should deal with this behavior and if i can get her out of this ha bit.She definitely has attitude:)i hope this info helps
