The above link goes to Care About Laminitis; it's a new study being set up by Danica Pollard to try to find out more about this terrible condition. She would like as many people as possible to take part in the study whether your horse has laminitis or not.
As both of mine have had it, I'm obviously interested in finding out more!
Please have a look at their website, it is still under construction but due to launch mid - late July.

no, the study starts later this month.

I can't believe that after 4 years of keeping my girls laminitis free, I've let them have too much grass in the past month & Libby tied up & yesterday was feeling the stones a lot, so I've had to shut them up 24 hours a day in their night paddock with no grass.
How can i have been so stupid???????

There's loads of clover about this year. It just goes to show when you let them have just a little bit extra it soon increases & they go over the tipping point in a few days.
It's not been helped by them having to have their sweet itch rugs on day & night as the horse flies have been so awful, so then you don't see the fat creeping up in a week - believe me, it goes on them that quick, Libby put on 1 cm & Eb 2 cm!:(

Aww Beryl, what a shame...you're right about the clover...my boys are so fat it's ridiculous but now they are with me full time I can manage them better and they are on very sparse grass and are on the driving eating woody bits from the hedge and clearing the overgrowth while they are at it!! Our native breeds in the UK are so easy to overfeed aren't they? My Billy can live on bloody fresh air!

I'm so fed up with myself for inflicting it on Lib again. Bless her little heart, 2 days before i schooled her & asked for shoulder fore to the outside, then inside & she performed it so well, it was forward & light & she changed bend beautifully, then i asked for medium trot on the long side, again beautiful & forward.
She'd been slow on hacks, so i thought she was tired & FED HER MORE!!!!!
It just goes to show how horses will hide how bad they feel & still give to you!!
It was entirely my own fault, i started letting them have a graze on the school paddock & the time out there crept up; they were doing so well when i had them only on the track grazing as they walked more & got fitter & leaner.
Libby is 5/8 Arab, so equally as susceptible as Ebony, the Fell pony, who is not suffering from a laminitis attack amazingly!

go easy on yourself Beryl, it wasn't intentional..you caught it all before it got out of hand :-)

yea, your right, i know, but!
Her pulses were back down to normal & her loins & quarter muscles were soft again yesterday anyway.
I was so chuffed with how she performed the shoulder fore's in trot as i only usually get to practice them in walk on hacks; i won't school her on very hard ground cos of the laminitis nor when the grounds wet & slippery as she's barefoot & we're on clay, so it was so good that she performed it so well.
Hey Ho, a normal summer for us - first our spectacular face first fall, then her windgall, now laminitis.
How do some people get away with dreadful lack of care of their horses & sod all going wrong, but when you work so hard to look after them well, you get everything thrown at you?????

Is that a rhetorical question or are you looking for an answer beryl? I'm asking because you know I can get carried away with philosophies of life, the universe, and all that it contains, especially when someone gives you an opening like that hahaha If it's rhetorical (which I suspect it is) I shall say no more other than I do feel your frustration :-)
