Greetings all!
Its been a while since I have been on here, over a year and I am tickled to be back! For those who might remember me, my horses are Mijo and Mija (Nina) and I have finally got them where I can see them anytime I want. It took over a year to get here, but finally, I have them! Basically every day if I want/need to I can go see them! This thrills me to no end and helps my old broken heart to heal like you wouldn't believe, basically my heart was broken because I couldn't be with them, so I am well on my way to healing me and hopefully them. It is very exciting just to see them. I tell you, they remembered me! It has been an amazing few weeks and though I haven't had a lot of training progress I have begun to rebuild our relationships.
I have heard that while I had no contact with them for that year and some, Mija had gone to a "trainer" and had been ridden, though I have no real proof of that as yet she seems much like the same horse that I remember, still, she's a bit head shy, not badly, though she seems somewhat more willing to be harnessed I have not gone that far with her yet, I've got the dually on her once and took it back off because she was exhibiting signs of unease, and unrest, stamping her front feet. She does seem a bit less flighty than she was before, that could be just age though. Recently I've got a couple of simple rope harnesses for them, though they've just smelled them and she let me rub it on her face a bit, I haven't put it on her yet, just up over her nose and back off a few times.
They are both now about 4.5 years old. Mijo hasn't had anything done, though I know he had his groundwork as a colt and when I got him he was 18mo old he had been worked with on the ground, he is less willing to be near when I have anything like harness/rope anything in my hands.
Where they are now, is about an acre + and no round pen, though I'm doing my best to be patient on that. (They may soon put one in.) There are some small square pens, much smaller than a round pen but still good size, that I can use, I haven't ventured to go there yet. I wanted to get back on here and brush up on what steps I should take to start off with. They will both come to the gate when I come in and will let me pet and rub on them, I think this is looking for food/treats more than anything at this point, they lose interest quickly when I don't produce anything for them, but come quickly when I do.
Suggestions and advice and critique is always welcome!
Again really glad to be back with you all!!!
Tara
