Static electricity

I hope someone else has had this issue with their horse and found a solution. The air here is cold and dry and when I brush her the static electricity just crackles and the mare's reaction is kind of "what is going on here?" She is not spooky but sure does't understand what is going on. Any ideas how to got rid of the static?

Hi Lyn, No, I don't have direct experience of this but I do have have lots of experience, over 50 years. Keep calm! Be consistent with her. This is a change she has made, maybe to challenge you & you need to respond. The weather conditions may have no bearing. This could be so lovely. Only use natural fibres. Brush her gently but firmly. I'm sure you'll find benefit. Cheers, Jo.

Avoid synthetic brushes if you can. That helps a lot.

A light bit of grooming spray onto the brush to break the charge or human Antistatic spray(here in Canada it's called Staticguard) onto the brush or a cloth and wipe over the brush( not to the horse) or a dryer sheet is also designed to break static cling. Often I just give the brush a mist of water and let dry it will often be enough to break the charge on the surface.

Thanks to all,
I did the Statiguard thing and it worked. All is well now.
