Tango chooses

Hello!

I have bought an ex-race mare who was rescued by a good lady and friend. Tango is beautiful and coming back up to her propper weight with a shine on her coat, she looks amazing. I recently videoed her spotting me from far away and heading directly towards me. I stand sideways with my eyes averted usually and when she gets closer turn my back with eyes still averted. When her nose touches my arm I turn with my eyes away and look at her shoulder and give her a rub. The first time it happened there were tears in my eyes, it still chokes me to see her choose to come even from a distance. I feel certain she has the nature for a therapy horse as she is so gentle and kind as well as a giver. This is something I would love to set up in my area but I really need a lot of advice. I signed up to EAGLA news letters and am thinking of taking a course there and with Kelly Marks as well as remaining on the University. What are my best steps forward?

Do you mean steps forward with your horse or some kind of work with therapy?
I can imagine the latter is a huge area, and maybe difficult to give advice on in a forum such as this.
I don't even live in your country, so I can't help you at all,but I can imagine sitting down and drawing up for yourself what exactly you are planning to do.
.
What do you estimate for costs, time? Any changes you have to make around the stable, who you are planning to sell your service to, how to reach them, etc. is important to clarify before you even start.
Then you can do some research to see if something similar is going on nearby, or if there is an interest at all (you can create that!) ;)
I have no idea if this was helpful, but I wish you tons of luck!!!

Hello!

Thank you for your reply, sorry but am having treatment for cancer at the moment a sudden diagnosis like a bolt from the blue. I would like to start by renting or purcasing a couple of large fields, drawing up plans for round pens, there is nothing in my area like this, but I know the power of loving horses and have them respond thanks to Montys ways and I really am so glad I have had the opportunity and want others here to experience it on a local basis. There is the stabling, feed, a coffee shop a learning area, so many things to think of, many places concentrate on deprived children, I do not object to that but I would like it to be for everyone with problems not just the youngsters. To give horses a valuable role in life, it is any horse that has my girls nature, she would be a perfect role model for it and a good first step but I need to be on my own private land rather than on livery owned by someone else where acess isn't for anyone or everyone only livery horse owners.

mikproju1, sorry to hear about your cancer. I have battled it three times now and my doctors told me it wouldn't have mattered what type of cancer theropy I would have choosen my positive attitude is what cured me.
You have a positive attitude and I admire your goals.
My daughter is sitting up her farm for theropy riding.
I worked with a lawyer who only has clients with disabilities and learnt how to make contacts.
Something that might help you is get in touch with as many local associations that deal with any type of disability and they will pass on to their clients your concepts.
You have a computer and perhaps a printer? If so, using a colums program, such as for a newspaper, type up what you can offer to the public and the benefits it will help with. Print off a copy and head for your local printer, less cost to you, ink wise. If you have a program (template) that makes cards, make one up and have those printed as well.
Fold your flyers, attach a card with a paper clip and give these to the contacts you have made and they will have the information at their fingertips to pass on to their clients.
The reason I suggest both is, many associations have clip boards that they keep filed with business cards for easy access, I use one.
When word gets out about what you are proposing it's amazing what people will come up with, especially companies who can help set off the costs for you as tax write-offs for themselves, don't be shy get in touch with these as well, every little bit helps. You can give them a receipt and you also can use these as a tax write-off.
Also, there's local help with the work, high school kids love that and volunteers, get in touch with your local branch. Go to the high schools, give a talk about what you are doing and how by their help you can be a success.
Local radio stations announce programs available to the public, usually free.
What you are planning to do is amazaing and you can succeed, allow others to even help with the searching of the venue you want to use and the costs.
Farmers in your area can help by giving you a good deal on hay and feed, use many, and they will congradulate you on your efforts.
I hope this has helped in some way. What you are planning is truly amazing and there is so much more I could post but it would take an amazing amount of room. I'm sure with your brillant mind this started the juices going for you.
Wishing you the very best in all aspects of your life, Ronda
