Temple Grandin

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed

I was reading something on one of Montys emails and some advice he gave to a lady about reading Temple Grandin's books and watching her movie.
I did some research and this woman is amazing, wow!!!
I hope you all get to read at least her two books:
Animals in Translation and Improving Animal Welfare, a practial approach.
In chapter 13 of the second book she deals with horses. Her insight is amazaing. No wonder Monty admires her.
I do too.
She says: the single worst thing you can do to an animal is make it feel afraid.
Another thing she does is: explore the "Interpreter" in the normal human brain that filters out details, creating an unintentional blindness that animals and autistics do not suffer from.
Hope you get to see the movie and read these books,
Ronda

She is absolutely amazing. Not only does she have remarkable insight into how and what animals are thinking, but she has the courage of her convictions and has been able to change the attitude of a lot of cattlemen on how to treat their livestock. Every once in awhile there is a story on cattle being mistreated at a slaughter house and I think how stupid and cruel people can be. If only they would follow her recommendations the slaughter houses would make more money , have happier employees and we would have a safer food chain.

Cheers

I saw her movie and wish we all had her determination, heart for animals, her wisdom, and her courage to speak out against violence against children and animals.

Hi Ronda,

Temple Grandin is great!!!! I heard and read a few things from her now, because I am interested in how she sees things.
Animals are thinking in pictures and "words" and will be very scared when something in that line of pictures don't fit.
Adults and children who have autism think in pictures and don't want to be touched (energyfiels). Like a pressurezone. They don't like eye contact and are not speaking a lot. If you give them space, they will come to you and will touche you.
In this world, autistic persons need the social lessons, because they don't know this. But being with horses they are feeling so well and the horses like that to. It is an other way of communication.
I have ADD, as you know, and I am also thinking in pictures.
When I prepare myself to something I have a whole film (pictures) how it has to go. I can't filter and I see every detail, so when there is going something "wrong" then I am out of my film, let's say it is broken. That gives confusion and it cost a lot of energy to repair that film. Sometimes when it is to much for me I have to step out of that situation, because it upsets me to much, I even can't think and I have to sit down and relaxe. Trying to fix my film and coming back to the "new" situation.
It can also be happen that I block and can't do anything anymore, can't think, can't move, like I am stucked/frozen, untill somebody is "taking me by the hand" and fix my film.
I think the same happens with horses. They think in pictures and when there is something new, like a new object, new sent, new whatever, it doesn't fit in there film and they will be scared and they will react on that by fleeing. They stand still after a while and will let it sink in and will chew on it. When they are sure that it doesn't hurt them, they will come back.. etc... etc...
I am looking into this whole way of thinking and reactions, because I want to understand more of it.
It is funny that you brought it up on this topic, because I am also looking now into the way how I can get contact with horses (other animals) on telephatic way and I wanted to tell this on the forum. I am reading books now from Margrit Coates ; Horses talking, Connecting with horses and Hands-on healing for pets. This lady is also amazing.
I can see there is a bond between Renske and me more and more, because we are going to understand each other better.
Even Renske gives me signs when she want's me to do something for her when I am brushing her.
There is such a lot more to discover and to learn. It keeps you awake and alert.
I am going to try to get the movie and books from Temple Grandin here in Holland.
Thank you for bringing this up.
I think if we understand more how horses (other animals)are thinking, it makes it much more easier for us and them.

Temple Grandin was a featured speaker at the 2013 American College of Theriogenology (ACT) Symposia and Conference, held in Louisville Aug. 7-10.
Follow the link below and read an article on her tips about keeping horses calm during handling. Great read!

Hello!

Temple Grandins movie is fantastic - I first saw it on a wee screen on a plane and had tears streaming down my face-so the big tough guy next to me watched it too and we both sat there crying!
