Donkey's

Hello! 100 lessons completed

How do donkey's respond to this method of training? Curious as someone wants some help with one. Never worked with a donkey before but lots of horses.

Dear Stephen, Donkeys have their own chapter in Montys From My Hands to Yours :) While they are a part of the Equus speaking world just as zebras and deers, they do not have the same kind of flight respons as horses have due to natural causes. Do read Montys comments in his books! One should never forget that a Join-Up does not necessarily have to be in a round pen and with the "flight respons" of 500-700 meters. Sometimes You need to do a "mini Join-Up" as in advanced/retreat and moving feet. You will find/see and get the 4 signs, always! Kind Regards (a Swedish CI very fond of Donkeys in all forms and shapes )

I know very little about donkeys so will be very keen to hear more. However, there is one thing I do know, they must not be kept on their own, they suffer from the effects of isolation far more than horses do and high stress levels are extremely damaging to them. Well, that sums up my entire knowledge of Donkeys!!

Hi Stephen. I too have just a little knowledge of donkeys. They are more considering than horses & ponies - probably where their reputation for being stubborn comes from, wrongly. Donkeys take longer to process so the 3 seconds a pony or horse needs would be double for a donkey. Just go really slowly & I too recommend From My Hands To Yours. Good luck. Cheers, Jo.
